The Eritrean government has denied reports that it gives military aid to al Shabaab, describing the allegations as baseless. A statement issued by the Eritrean Foreign Affairs Ministry denied that the government supports and gives arms to al Shabaab so that the group can combat Kenyan troops currently in southern Somali regions. The statement described the allegations as politically-motivated propaganda.
Mudug regional administration welcomes AMISOM deployment

We killed 10 al Shabaab fighters in southern Somalia: Official

The governor of Gedo region in southern Somalia on Wednesday said his troops have killed at least 10 al Shabaab fighters after battle in southern town. Mohamed Abdi Kalil, Somalia’s Gedo governor, noted that the fighting, which was very fierce, took place a village about 10 away from the town of Bardhere.

Kenya repulses al Shabaab in Tabda

Two Kenyan soldiers were injured when al Shabaab militas ambushed their convoy in the Tabda area of Southern Somalia which Kenyan soldiers are using in their military operation. Kenyan and TFG soldiers repulsed the attack but two soldiers were injured and have been evacuated to Nairobi, Kenya’s military spokesman Maj Emmanuel Chirchir said.
Al Shabaab gets third planeload of arms

A third shipment of arms has been made to al Shabaab. “We can positively confirm that another aircraft with weapons has landed in Somalia” military spokesman Maj Chirchir said. The arms are believed to have originated from Eritrea, which the UN and the international community has accused of arming the militants.

The head of the presidential information department, Mr Sutan Ahmed, said the two presidents were going to discuss the second phase of the offensive against al Shabaab.

New plan to beef up security in Mombasa

Somalia braced for Kenyan air attacks yesterday and Islamist militants stopped civilians from fleeing at least one likely strike zone. Kenya, which sent troops into lawless Somalia nearly three weeks ago to crush the al Shabaab militant network, said on Tuesday it planned “imminent” air raids on militant bases and warned residents to stay clear of them.
