Car bomb explosion kills four in Somali capital

At least four people, among them a soldier, were killed and many others wounded after a suicide car bomb went off at KM4 junction in Mogadishu, witness said on Tuesday. Reports close to the explosion site confirmed that Somali government police at KM4 junction, a busy street in the heart of Mogadishu tried to stop a luxury small car loaded with explosives which went off hours later, triggered by remote control.

Mungisha: we will put in place extra measures to prevent explosions

The African Union forces Commander Gen. Fred Mungisha has said they will double their efforts to prevent deadly explosions in Mogadishu which have claimed the lives of both civilians and soldiers. The AU force commander said the TFG and AU forces have on several times earlier foiled explosions, including landmines and suicide bombing aimed at killing masses in Mogadishu.
Somalia’s Military Court sentences 15 linked to al Shabaab

The Military Court of the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia early on Tuesday morning sentenced at least fifteen people, many of them who were found guilty of connection with al Shabaab fighters. The court said that eight of the fifteen have been sentenced to the death penalty for committing acts against the national security, including attacks against Somali government compounds harming innocent civilians in Mogadishu.

Puntland leader appoints committee to investigate Bossaso fire

Al Shabaab detain 20 people in parts of Middle Shabelle

Al Shabaab militants in Jowhar town, Middle Shabelle, on Monday night raided Barow-weyne village, 15 km north of Jowhar town and rounded up people they accused of allegedly taking part in an inter-clan fight that erupted in the area few days ago. An al Shabaab leader in the area accused these people of masterminding the fight between the two clans in the area three days ago, adding that his militant group is investigating the incident.

Kenya has formally sanctioned a request by the African Union to have its troops join the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) to fight Al Shabaab militants. A dispatch from State House Nairobi said a Cabinet meeting chaired by President Mwai Kibaki on Tuesday had approved to have a “re-hatting of the Kenya Defence Forces in Somalia to Amisom.”

40 al Shabaab killed in air strikes

Air strikes by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have destroyed two Al Shabaab camps in Afmadow inside Somalia, killing scores of militants and destroying their military equipment. This is the latest attack by KDF in the Operation Linda Nchi, coming hot on the heels of Saturday’s clash at Hayo area, which left an estimated 40 militants dead. In Nairobi, the Cabinet has approved the ‘re-hatting’ of the KDF in Somalia to Amisom but subject to approval by Parliament.

100 suspects arrested after Dadaab attack

More than 100 suspects were arrested at the Dadaab refugee camp on Tuesday following an attack a day earlier that killed a policeman and wounded three other officers. North Eastern Provincial Commissioner Joseph ole Serian told Capital News that the suspects were being interrogated over the attack and those found culpable would be arraigned in court. “Yes, we have arrested 100 suspects in today’s (Tuesday’s) security operation,” the PC said.

Police officers stopped the car in the busy K4 junction of the capital. Police have confirmed the deaths of an officer, a civilian and the driver, who had allegedly set off the explosives.
