IDPs in Mogadishu receive relief aid

An international aid agency, Muslim Aid, has provided food rations to over a thousand droughtdisplaced families in five IDP cams in Hamar-Weyne district of Mogadishu. Muslim Aid official, Ali Elmi, told Bar-kulan that his organization has distributed food aid comprising of cooking oil and rice to IDPs in five different camps in Hamar-Weyne.

Fresh row erupts between al Shabaab’s Godane and Abu Mansur

A fresh row has reportedly erupted between al Shabaab’s Mukhtar Robow Abu Mansur and Ahmed Godane, forcing Robow’s allied militia to move to a section of Baidoa town, in what seems to a show of military mighty. Reliable sources in Baidoa say, Godane allied al Shabaab militia withdrew from Robow’s strong hold town of Baidoa and fled to some parts of Lower Shabelle.

Four killed as government troops clash with al Shabaab in Gedo region

Death toll of malnourished children increases in Somalia’s capital

At least eight severely malnourished children have died in Mogadishu after 24 hours of rain, making the situations of drought-displaced Somalis much worse, witnesses said Sunday. Living unsheltered on open ground after their arrival at the nations’s capital, the most vulnerable members of the internally displaced people (IDPs) are facing appalling conditions because of the rains, as humanitarian aid is largely absent, according to Nur Maday, one of the internal refugees.

Somali children die en route to refugee camp

Faduma Sakow Abdullahi and her five children tried to escape starvation in Somalia by journeying to a Kenyan refugee camp. Only one day before they reached their destination, her 4- year-old daughter and 5-year-old son died of exhaustion and hunger. At first the 29-year-old widow thought the two were merely sleeping when they wouldn’t get up after a brief rest. She had to leave their bodies under a tree, unburied, so she could push on with her baby, 2-year-old and 3- year-old.

Somalis in Britain help nation through drought

Somalia’s child refugees bare the burden

11 Jul – Source: Foreign Policy Association – 287 words The plight of Somali children, whose families are fleeing the country’s ongoing 20 year conflict and continuing drought, attempting to reach refugee camps in neighboring Kenya and Ethiopia, is ringing alarm bells at the United Nations. Somali children are dying in great numbers- aid workers have begun to discover that many are unable to survive the treacherous journey to the overrun border camps. Those children who are lucky enough to survive the trek are all too often frail and hungry.
