Somalia’s president Sharif Sheikh Ahmed is meeting his Kenyan and Ugandan counterparts in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. President Sharif and his entourage arrived in Nairobi early on Wednesday for a two day visit to attend a meeting between the three East African leaders in Nairobi.

27 killed in clashes between TFG troops and al Shabaab in Gedo region

Al Shabaab withdraws from camps

Reports from Banadir, Middle Shabelle and Lower Shabelle regions in southern Somalia indicate that al Shabaab have withdrawn their troops, military vehicles and equipment from camps in the region fearing more air strikes from Kenyan forces and western countries.

Somali rebels vow to defeat Kenya as attacks rock Mogadishu

A wave of grenade attacks killed a child and wounded nine other people in the Somali capital, as Islamists rebels Wednesday warned Kenyan forces of “hellfire” if they did not pull out of the country. The warning, from Sheikh Ali Mohammed Rage, spokesperson for al Shabaab rebels, came a month after Kenyan troops crossed into southern Somalia.

Al Shabaab arrests two in Beledweyne for alleged espionage

Al Shabaab militias in Beledweyne town have arrested two suspects for allegedly of spying on their military activities in the area. Rebel fighters combed parts of the town rounded up the suspect whom they accused of spying for Ethiopian government.

Somalia, Uganda to bolster Kenya’s Shabaab offensive

Somalia and Uganda have agreed on a co-ordinated approach with Kenya in fighting the al Shabaab militia to maintain peace in the region. The pact was reached at a meeting held between President Mwai Kibaki, Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni and Somalia’s President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed at State House, Nairobi on Wednesday afternoon.

Kenya and Amisom to join forces in al Shabaab fight

A combined AU-Kenya Defence Forces assault against Somalia’s al Shabaab militants was announced in Nairobi Wednesday. It will bring together the African Union forces operating around Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and those of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) in the fight against the militant group throughout Somalia.

Somali farmers fear returning home

It is now raining in parts of Somalia for the first time in years, a time when crucial crops should be planted. But farmers are among the hundreds of thousands of displaced people in Mogadishu, the capital. Many fear going back because of a lack of money and security, with the armed group al Shabab now controlling many of the areas from where they had fled.

Kuwait grants financial aid for Somalia
