Preparatory Committee announces the organization of an inclusive Consultative Meeting on ending the Transition

The Preparatory Committee for the forthcoming Consultative Meeting on ending the Transition in Somalia held a fifth round of discussions on Monday. The Committee includes representatives from the Transitional Federal Government (TFG), the Transitional Federal Parliament (TFP), the Governments of Puntland and Galmudug, the African Union, IGAD and the United Nations. The main purpose of the Consultative Meeting is to advance the peace process, building on the High Level Consultative Meeting in April convened by the UN Special Representative for Somalia, Dr Augustine P. Mahiga and the Kampala Accord, as well as to adopt a roadmap to end the Transition.

The Preparatory Committee is determined to ensure that the Consultative Meeting will be as inclusive as possible. In addition to the TFG, TFP and the Governments of Puntland and Galmudug, the meeting will include representatives from Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamaa and a broad range of stakeholders from Somali society.

The TFG’s National Security Agency yesterday denied that two of its members were among those shot at by al Shabaab in Dayniile. An officer of the national security agency who contacted Radio Mogadishu said the two young people shot dead by al Shabaab were not among officers of the national security agency.

Heavy fighting breaks out in southern Somalia, kills three

Heavy fighting between TFG forces and al Shabaab militias has broken out in the outskirts of Luq district of Gedo region in southern Somalia yesterday, killing 3, according to official. Three people were killed and 7 others were wounded according to officials, adding that the TFG troops reached victories over the clash.

Al Shabaab members surrender to the government

Young defectors from al Shabaab have surrendered themselves to government officials in Gedo region in the last 48 hours, as government forces are carrying out operations in the region. The leader of the government for Gedo region Mohamed Abdi Kaliil, speaking to Radio Mogadishu last night, said many young people from al Shabaab have been joining the government in the last four days.

Galmudug authorities welcome Farmajo’s resignation

Somalia’s Regional Authorities of Galmudug yesterday welcomed the resignation of PM Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, who left office officially on Sunday. Cabinet ministers of the semiautonomous region described the exit of Farmajo as a window of opportunity for Somalia and that it will help settle the longstanding dispute within the TFG.

Watery diarrhea continue to kids in Somalia’s capital

As watery diarrhea continues to kill Somali kids, at least five toddlers died from the disorder in the seaside Mogadishu. A health official at Mogadishu’s Banadir Hospital says that a lot of people, mainly, children who are suffering from the disease of diarrhea are in the hospital. He spelled out that more sick people were brought to the hospital in the last24 hours seeking for urgent treatment.
