President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed Meets Mr. Lynn Pascoe Delegation

The President of Somalia, H.E President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed received a UN delegation at his office today at Villa Somalia. The delegation was led by Mr. Lynn Pascoe the Under-Secretary- General for Political Affairs and Ambassador Augustine P. Mahiga.

The President in his campaign for more Humanitarian Support intended for the famine victims, informed Mr. Pascoe’s delegation about the urgent need for help. Further to that, President Sharif also briefed the UN about the current situation, and the creation of several camps in the Banadir region built by the Somali government. At the end of the meeting, The President and the visiting delegation held a joint press conference requesting urgent help for the People severely affected by the current Famine Somalia.

Al Shabaab Militia Kidnaps a New Minister

Reports from Jowhar, in Middle Shabelle indicate that Al-Shabaab militia has detained Asha Osman Aaqil, minister for women and family affairs; whom the Somali premier, Dr. Abdiweli Gas appointed yesterday afternoon. The new minister was reported captured at midday, when she was picked up from a bus as she headed towards Mogadishu.

Al-Shabaab kidnaps a Civilian in Jowhar

Reports from Jowhar district in Middle Shabelle say Al-Shabaab militia has detained a man for allegedly colluding with the Somali government. The man only identified as Mukhtar was picked from his house in Makina residential area to unknown area. Reports also say that the militia tortured the accused before taking him away to unknown destination.

Gal-Mudug Opposes Somalia Cabinet Nominees

The president of Somalia’s self-styled Gal-mudug state in Mudug region in central Somalia has sounded his strong opposition to the appointment of new cabinet ministers by the prime minister of Somalia, Dr. Abdiweli Mohamed Ali. Mohamed Ahmed Alin, the leader of Gal-mudug made the comments while speaking at a press conference held in Galka’yo town.

Al-Shabaab uses live rounds ammunition to disperse children playing local game

Al-Shabaab militia in Jowhar used live rounds ammunition to disperse children playing a local game popularly known as “La’do” in their home vicinity. So far no casualties have been reported but the incident is said to have shocked the local resident in the area. The Al-Shabaab militia in the region has been oppressing the youths in the area since they took control of the region.

Uganda or even UK can host Somalis, says Ojode

Kenya has now petitioned the African Union (AU) to step in and start relocating refugees in camps at the North Eastern Province to other countries to ease the congestion. Assistant Minister for Internal Security Orwa Ojode told journalists on Thursday that the camps in Kenya were too congested and may soon be unable to take any more refugees.

He said the government was also appealing to the international community to start building schools and providing food to refugees in Somaliland.

He spoke moments after Government Spokesman Dr Alfred Mutua announced that Kenya was also appealing to the international community to consider opening camps in Somaliland to be able to cater for the high number of refugees trooping into the country daily.

US to allow aid shipments to Islamist-held Somalia

Supplies bought with American money would be allowed to be given to those worst-affected by the crisis if pro-al-Qaeda insurgents guaranteed unhindered access, the head of USAID said. Al-Shabaab, Somalia’s Islamist rebels promised an amnesty last week which prompted calls from aid workers for a lifting of the ban on US aid to southern Somalia.
