Defense Minister tours military installations in Mogadishu

Deputy Somali PM/Defense Minister Hussein Arab Isse, accompanied by some ministers and other senior TFG officials yesterday went on a tour of various military installations in Mogadishu, including Mariino camp, Gulwadayasha, former defense ministry headquarters, Jaale Siyad College, Former Somali government official homes, Shirkole Official, Former Orphanage college, Former military hospital, Damaanyo buildings, Former Weaving industry and many other important barracks.

60 senior Somali police officers received training in Rwanda on peacekeeping

Somali MPs distribute aid to IDPs in parts of Mogadishu

A section of Somali members of Parliament on Wednesday distributed humanitarian aid to the famine-struck people in refugee camps in the districts of Waberi and Hamarweyne in Mogadishu. Legislator Amir Shaketi said that the aid delivery, which includes biscuits and canned milk for the severely malnourished children comes from ethnic Somali communities in the U.S, UK and other countries around the world.
Voluntary Somali medics set off to Mogadishu from the USA

President Farole dismisses Mudug regional administration

Puntland’s President Abdirahman Mohamed Mohamud Farole on Wednesday sacked his entire Mudug regional administration and replaced it immediately. In a presidential decree issued from his office in Garowe, the president fired Mudug regional governor Mohamud Abdirahman Uke and replaced him with Mohamud Yussuf Jama.

40 tonnes of humanitarian aid from Saudi Arabia arrives in Mogadishu

Approximately 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid from Saudi Arabia has on Wednesday arrived in Mogadishu. A military cargo flight carrying the Saudi aid comprising of medicines and other medical supplies landed at Adan Ade International Airport in Mogadishu. After its shipment, the aid was handed over to Somalia’s Assistant Minister for Health Maalim Ali.

Al Shabaab display battle wagons confiscated from TFG

Al Shabaab on Wednesday put on show at least six military wagons they said had confiscated from the TFG in the village of Busar just outside of Elwak town, Gedo region. Reports emanating from the region say that four of the seized military vehicles were loaded with military supplies for the Somali government forces in the region.

8th Kuwaiti relief plane heads to drought-stricken Somali people

The Kuwait Red Crescent Society announced on Wednesday the departure of the eighth Kuwaiti humanitarian plane to drought-and-famine stricken Somali people. Somalia famine set to spread to two new areas: UN

Famine is set to spread to two new southern Somali regions with millions of people reeling from extreme drought, the top UN humanitarian aid official for the war-torn nation warned on Wednesday. “We are anticipating that two more areas of southern Somalia will be included,” Mark Bowden, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia, told AFP.
SA aid to Somalia exceeds R20m: Motlanthe

Sierra Leone to send 850 soldiers to Somalia

Sierra Leone will send a battalion of 850 soldiers to boost an African Union mission in war-torn Somalia after April next year, military spokesman Major Ken Jabbie said in the capital on Wednesday.
