Somalia’s former PM departs from the country

The recently resigned Somali PM on Sunday departed from Mogadishu’s international airport heading towards Dubai where he will hold discussions with Somali Diaspora in UAE. He was escorted by a number of his former cabinet ministers and lawmakers. Farmajo will then go to London to attend a ceremony marking the independence of southern Somalia regions and the unity of the South and North.

Puntland official gunned down in Galka’yo

Unknown armed men gunned down a Puntland official in Galka’yo town in Mudug region in central Somalia. Abdislam Ali Seylan, a Puntland Officer at Investigation Department, was shot dead at the entrance of Galka’yo’s Police Station. Witnesses confirmed that the assailants had escaped from the area after the shooting.

Trained government soldiers threaten attacks to erradicate al Shabaab from southern Somalia

TFG soldiers in Gedo region of southern Somalia have said that they are prepared for attacks against al Shabaab militias in the region. TFG soldiers who recently wrapped up military training in both Kenya and Ethiopia said they were fully prepared for gun battle against al Shabaab, according to Jamal Hassan Sareey, an officer in Gedo on Saturday.

Parliament meeting due to be held in Mogadishu postponed

The transitional parliamentarian’s meeting supposed to be held at the centre of lawmakers in Mogadishu on Sunday has been postponed, just as preparations to approve the newly elected Somali Prime Minister of Somalia continue in the capital. Parliamentarian Abdullahi Roble Olad told reporters that the cabinet sessions were delayed because of the approval process of Prof. Abdiweli Mohamed Ali, Somalia’s new PM.

Al Shabaab arrest people for alleged spying

The al Shabaab movement on Saturday apprehended a group of people, mainly teenagers, in a southern Somalia town accusing them of spying. Reports emanating from Kismaayo claim that the insurgents arrested a number of youths accused of spying in and helping last Thursday’s aerial attacks on Qandal area, about 10 kilometers south of port town Kismayo.
