At least seven people have been injured in yet another roadside explosion in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.
The seven were pedestrians and fell victims to the blast which went off in Joska area, few meters from where another explosion had occurred in November 16.

President of the Somali Federal Government meets his Turkish partner

President of the Somali Federal Government, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who is in tour in Turkey on Wednesday had a meeting with his partner, Abdalla Gaul in Ankara.
Some ministers of the Somali Federal Government and Turkish Government attended the meeting which focused on security, economics and strengthening ties between the two states according to Somali National News Agency SONNA.
Gunmen assassinate a Traditional elder in Mogadishu

Unknown gunmen shot and killed on Wednesday evening an elder in Mogadishu’s Wadajir district, witnesses said.
Mohamed Mohmud Yusuf Odey, one of the former 135-member constituent assembly who chose the current federal MPs was assassinated by men armed with pistols in front of his house located in Nasteeho neighborhood in Mogadishu.
The killers managed to escape from the scene uncaught.
Investigations by the Somali forces are underway, according to officials.
Needy families in Kismayo receive humanitarian aid

Kismayo’s interim administration has on Wednesday distributed 340 tonnes of wheat donated by a local aid agency, Yaglel, to needy families in the city.
More than 10,000 families received the donation distributed in 70 distribution centres, according to the head of humanitarian affairs in Kismayo, Hashi Abdirahman Ibrahim.
He said the beneficiaries were mainly internally displaced people pitching tents in refugee camps in the city and other needy families.
Ten killed as militants clash with Puntland forces in Galgala

At least ten people have been killed and dozen others injured in a deadly fight between al Shabaab militias and Puntland forces at Galgala Mountains, some 40km southwest of Bosaso city.
The Tuesday night fighting occurred after a group of heavily armed al Shabaab militants attacked Puntland Defense Force units stationed at the frontlines near Galgala Mountains at around 11:00pm local time, according to a press statement sent to newsrooms by the Puntland government.

31 feared dead in Somalia’s al Shabaab attack

A bomb blast and a shoot-out between Islamists and troops from the semi-autonomous Puntland region have left 31 people dead or wounded, officials say.
Fighters from the al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab group attacked a military base and planted a roadside bomb, the officials said.
Al Shabaab fighters have reportedly moved to Puntland in recent months.
Their move comes as African Union-backed government forces gain ground in their stronghold of southern Somalia.

Somalia bottoms out in transparency survey

Somalia has bottomed out in an annual ranking of the perceived corruption of nations, joining Afghanistan and North Korea.
Transparency International’s annual Corruption Perceptions Index, released Wednesday, shows Somalia ranked at 174 out of the 174 nations surveyed. Botswana was the highest of all African nations, coming in at 30.
Somali president hails Turkish efforts for better life in Somalia

During his first official visit to Turkey, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed his gratitude to the Turkish government and the nation for their support, aid and instilling hope in Somalis.
Mohamud, president since Sept. 10, was invited to Turkey by his counterpart, President Abdullah Gül, and arrived on Tuesday. He is expected to stay for four days. A five-member delegation accompanied him: four ministers of the Somali federal government and Chief of General Staff Maj. Gen. Abdul Qadir Sheikh Ali Dini.
Blast wounds five in Nairobi Somali district: police

A huge explosion in a Nairobi neighbourhood, which is home to a large Somali community, on Wednesday evening left at least five people seriously wounded, police told AFP.
“We are aware of an explosion in the Eastleigh area. We do not know exactly what happened. At least five people have been reported injured. Police are currently heading to the scene to get more details,” Nairobi police chief Moses Nyakwama told AFP.
The blast, which occurred at around 7:30pm local time (1630GMT) reportedly happened near a supermarket in the predominantly Somali neighbourhood of Eastleigh, which has been the scene of deadly attacks recently.
