Somali leaders on Tuesday met in Mogadishu for the last day of the three day national reconciliation conference in an effort to end 20 years of turmoil and set up plans for a new government. The meeting which formally kick-started on Sunday afternoon in Mogadishu and aimed at winding up the seven-year-old transitional administration is expected to be concluded today.

Injured people from central Somalia land at Mogadishu for treatment

Officials say the number of injured people brought in is 39; most of them sustained critical gunshot mortar shrapnel injuries in two days of fighting between forces loyal to the semi-autonomous region of Puntland and local armed clan militias in the town of Galka’yo.

Mogadishu airport authorities stop young Somalis from departing

The immigration and naturalization department of the TFG on Tuesday stopped at least 20 Somali young people from departing from Mogadishu international airport. Abdullahi Gafow Mohamoud, the director of the immigration and naturalization department told Shabelle Radio that youngsters who were on their way to Berbara coastal town in Somaliland, were suspect.

Somalia’s disparate leaders yesterday signed a “roadmap” for the formation of a government to replace the fragile transitional body that has failed to bring peace to the fragmented country. “We are clearly committed to implement this roadmap, the Somali people have suffered a lot,” said Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed after three days of talks at a heavily-guarded conference venue in Mogadishu.

Al Shabaab ban non-Arabic signs on shops
