Somali government establishes committee of experts on draft constitution

As part of its drive to implement the Roadmap, the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, H.E. Hussein Arab Isse, announced today the establishment of the Committee of Experts (CoE) that will support the preparation of the Draft Constitution.

Their names are:

  1. Dr. Ali Said Fiqi
  2. Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawaari
  3. Prof. Ahmed Abbas Ahmed
  4. Dr. Shukria Abdirahman Dini
  5. Prof. Mohamud Mo’allin Ali Turyare
  6. Avv. Asha-kiin Farah Du’ale
  7. Ali Sheikh Mohamud Ga’al
  8. Hanan A. Ibrahim
  9. Avv. Ali Abdalla Dafeed

The experts have been selected based on their knowledge and experience in law and are expected to deliver their mandate within the coming months. The Somali Government asks all the Somali people and other stakeholders to fully support the COE in this noble exercise.

Government to restore hospitals in Mogadishu

The Somali government has announced that it will renovate all health facilities in the capital in its effort to revive public institutions in the country. President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed who toured some of the Hospitals in the capital on Sunday said his government will immediately restore all hospitals to enable locals get access to medical services.

MP’s unanimously endorse financial bill

Somali Members of Parliament have yesterday unanimously endorsed the financial bill that was tabled to parliament by the Somali Cabinet after three days of heated debate. 292 MPS’s attended the session that saw 290 MP’s approve the financial bill that clearly indicate the government dealings with foreign organizations.

RCA receives AED 1 million for drought victims of Somalia

‘Iranians donate USD 200K to Somalia’

The Secretary General of the International Union of Unified Ummah says the Iranian nation donated more than USD 200,000 to the famine-hit Somalis during the holy month of Ramadan. The sum will be shipped to Somalia in the form of 180 tons of foodstuff on Tuesday from the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, IRNA quoted Salim Ghafoori as saying on Monday.

Somali Canadians near end of Toronto-to- Ottawa trek

An eight-day trek from Toronto was a gruelling task for some young Somali-Canadians heading into Ottawa on Monday, but they said it didn’t compare to the hardships endured in their homeland. “It’s walking in solidarity, even though as painful as it is, we can never feel the way they feel,” said Shadya Yasin, 27, who organized the 400-kilometre walk to raise awareness of the crisis in East Africa.
