IGAD appointed as co-chair of the Technical Committee on the Implementation of the Road map

The Somali Government announces that Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has been appointed as a co-chair of the Technical Committee on the implementation of the Roadmap. With this announcement, IGAD joins other co-chairs: the TFG’s Minister for Planning and International Cooperation, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, and Deputy Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission.

Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has said that more emphasis needs to be placed on cleanliness and the renovation of Mogadishu in order to restore the lost glory of the once beautiful city. Addressing hundreds in one of the districts of the capital, President Sharif called on locals to maintain the peace efforts initiated by the TFG and AMISOM forces in Mogadishu.

Al Shabaab impose fines to pastoralists in Jubba and Shabelle

Armed extremists militants loyal to the al Shabaab in the rural areas of the lower Shabelle and Jubba regions of Somalia have imposed compulsory charity fees to the pastoralists and the farmers. Sources in these region told Radio Mogadishu that they were amused by the latest action brought about by al Shabaab, arguing that charity according to Islam is issued to the poor out of free will and never out of force.
Uganda arrests two suspects for ‘terrorism’

ICRC increases humanitarian operations in Somalia

Turkish charity organization Kimse Yok Mu on Wednesday gave 309 Somalis the opportunity to receive a quality education in Turkey, according to a news report from the Cihan news agency. The students, along with Kimse Yok Mu officials and Somali Education Minister Ahmet Eydid Đbrahim, arrived at Đstanbul Atat�¼rk Airport early Wednesday morning.
