A true role model, K’naan sets the standard for artists around the industry, showing that it is still possible to achieve success while staying true to the roots of the genre, and spreading positive that uplift people, instead of promote violence, sexism, excessive money spending. K’naan: Influencing A Generation

25 Feb- Source: WeSolve Blog-516 Words

Like wildfire, when it first was introduced to the world, Hip Hop music spread through and deeply penetrated the American culture upon its arrival. It began with positive artists and records aimed at both uplifting people and spreading awareness of the injustices of racial inequality in the U.S. as well as the sub-standard living conditions in the ghettos. The fusion of all types of blues, poetry, jazz and rock mixed with artists that told stories and brought attention to sensitive topics no one dared to talk about at such a public level before. Artists such as Grandmaster Flash, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Nas, Tupac, Common and Notorious B.I.G were making it cool to speak up and talk about injustices that surrounded them.
In a generation that seems to have lost touch with the original roots of genre, Somali-born artist K’naan, is a breath of fresh air. Born in Mogadishu, K’naan relocated to Toronto, Canada when he was a young child in an effort to escape the Somali Civil War. He escaped a nearly certain death by leaving and has continued to make certain that he does not waste the talents, and chances he has been given by constantly pushing the envelope.
