AMISOM forms a special unit to maintain security during the meeting to pass the constitution

Preparations are underway in Mogadishu for today’s meeting to pass the new constitution with AMISOM announcing that they formed a special unit to secure the venue.
The spokesman of AMISOM Ali Aadan Haamud said they have formed a special unit who will screen everybody going in and out of the planned venue.
The AMISOM spokesman also said a larger number security personnel will be assigned to be among the people attending so as to monitor every movement.

Three soldiers reportedly injured in southern Somalia blast

Reports from Balcad town in Middle Shabelle Region, southern Somalia say a landmine explosion targeted government forces in town, resulting in casualties. Eyewitnesses told Radio Shabelle that the blast was a powerful one and was heard across Balcad, adding that they saw three injured soldiers.
National forces ensure the security of the capital Mogadishu

Somali National News Agency reports that special security forces known as Gashan have been seen yesterday in all main road junctions of the capital. Minister of national security and home affairs of the TFG H.E. Abdi Samad Mo’allim Mohamud confirmed that the national security forces ensured the security of the capital in order for the conference meant to approve the new constitution to occur safely.

Puntland forces carry out security operations in Galkayo

Ugaas Ahmed a member of the committee that was appointed to mediate and solve the differences between the elders talked to Risaala radio, and said their work is being sabotaged by the minister of internal affairs and his permanent secretary.
Ugaas Ahmed also said 80% of the elders are not genuine as their selection process was totally flawed.

Ahlu Sunna officials in central Somali region of Galgadud have revealed that top al Shabaab militant leaders are now present in some parts of the region in order to lure locals into their militancy. Abdi Hassan Mohamed, an Ahlu Sunna official in the region claimed that al Shabaab’s Mukhtar Robow Ali, Ali Mohammoud Rage and other several other senior militant leaders held talks with local elders in El-garas location, some 50 kilometres from Dusamareb town.

Terror suspects make abduction claim in court

Two people accused of engaging in organised terrorists activities stunned the court Tuesday by claiming that armed men had attempted to abduct them. Aboud Rogo Mohammed and Abubakar Sharif Ahmed told principle magistrate Paul Biwot that immediately they arrived in Nairobi from Mombasa, a group of about eight to ten armed men attempted to abduct them at gunpoint.
They said that they were forced to struggle with the abductors and it was only through the help of members of the public that they managed to free themselves.
Army chiefs plot attack on Kismayu

Top commanders of the reshaped African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) have been meeting in Nairobi to approve war plans for a massive air, land and sea assault on Kismayu, the last stronghold of Somali terrorist group, Al-Shabaab.
The Nairobi meeting at the weekend was followed by another of regional army chiefs on Monday in Addis Ababa.
But as war plans were being made, the United Nations issued a report warning that an Al-Shabaab support network based in Nairobi “has continued to operate from Kenya with relative freedom” as it plans terror attacks inside Kenya.

Drone operations over Somalia pose danger to air traffic, U.N. report says

The skies over Somalia have become so congested with drones that the unmanned aircraft pose a danger to air traffic and potentially violate a long-standing arms embargo against the war-torn country, according to United Nations officials.
In a recently completed report, U.N. officials describe several narrowly averted disasters in which drones crashed into a refugee camp, flew dangerously close to a fuel dump and almost collided with a large passenger plane over Mogadishu, the capital.
Released Chinese crew members leave Tanzania for home

The Chinese crew members of Taiwan trawler “Xu Fu No 1”, seized by Somali pirates about 19 months ago, left here for home on Monday. Xu Fu NO 1, with 13 crew members from the Chinese mainland, the captain from Taiwan and 12 from Vietnam, was hijacked by Somali pirates in December 2010 off the Madagascar coast and taken to Somalia. The crew members were released on July 17, 2012 and picked up by the Chinese naval vessel.
