Ahmed Mohamed Islam who has been recognized by the federal government as the new interim Governor of the Jubba administration has for the first time addressed how he feels about the recent agreement between his administration and the government. Mr. Madobe said that attempts to derail his administration failed after several politicians including the government tried to undermine plans to form an effective administration for communities living in the three regions that constitute Jubba.

Trade Minister questions legitimacy of the chamber of commerce

The Minister for Trade and Industries of the Federal government of Somalia Mohamud Ahmed Hassan has rejected the legitimacy of the Somali chamber of commerce, RBC reports. “We are not aware of the so-called Banadir Regional Chamber of Commerce and our ministry does not recognize such a chamber.” the minister said in a press conference in Mogadishu. On Tuesday a group of businessmen gathered in Mogadishu’s Sahafi hotel and then announced the election of former warlord Abdirashid Shire Ilqeyte as the head of the new Banadir Regional Chamber of Commerce.


Somali MPs visit Beled-Hawa district

Members of the Somali Federal Parliament have arrived in Beled-Hawa, district of Gedo region in southern Somalia. MP Abdirashid Hajji Derow and Abdifatah Nur Matan were cordially received in the town. Addressing journalists in Beled-Hawa, MP Abdirashid Hajji Derow spoke about their trip which he said aims to assess the security in the area. The MPs are set to meet the different parts of the community, including the elders and religious leaders.

Security operation conducted in Beled-weyne

Beled-weyne police has given details about a major security operation that has been conducted in the central Somali town by Somali National army and AU peacekeeping forces on Tuesday. Reports indicate that hundreds of people were netted during the operation. Speaking to Bar-kulan, HiIraan police boss Col Isack Ali Abdulle stated that the operations were intended to ensure the security and stability in the region.


Ethiopian Prime Minister supports Somalia’s federalism

Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegnha said his country will support the building of a federal state in the neighboring country of Somalia after a meeting with the president of Puntland. A statement released after the meeting said the Ethiopian government would prefer a strong Somali federal state which is the only solution after more than two decades of crisis in the Horn of Africa country. “Building a federal state in Somalia and allowing the two regions to join together and form their own administration will lead to a new and development oriented country and will eventually end the destruction in Somalia” said th President of Puntland Abdurahman Farole.

France firmly condemns attack on Somalia”s president

France on Wednesday condemned an earlier attack on the Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohammed in what appears as a clear attempt by rebels to assassinate the Somali leader. The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it “condemned in the firmest way” the attack which targeted the president’s convoy as it was travelling near the town of Merca. Rebels linked with the Islamist radical group “Al-Shebab” are being blamed on the attack. France has been a long-time backer of the authorities in Somalia and nurtured the fledgling interim government for several years and also helped train Somali security forces in both bilateral and European Union military programmes.

Journalist recounts horrific kidnapping ordeal in Somalia

Former freelance journalist Amanda Lindhout, who endured beatings, starvation and sexual assaults by Islamic rebels after being kidnapped in 2008, will appear live on TODAY Friday after giving her first extensive interview about her horrific ordeal. In her new book, “A House in the Sky,’’ Lindhout shares deeply personal details from the 15 and a half months she spent in captivity, the abuse she endured, and fighting through thoughts of suicide. She spoke about her ordeal in an hour-long interview with NBC News correspondent Kate Snow that will air on “Dateline’’ Friday at 9 p.m. ET. Lindhout recalled Aug. 23, 2008, the day she was kidnapped by about a dozen men with pointing AK-47 assault rifles at her vehicle when she went to visit a refugee camp outside the Somalian capital of Mogadishu. Lindhout, who was 24 at the time, was kidnapped with 36-year-old Australian photographer Nigel Brennan on their third day in Somalia.

Jubaland Reborn: A Look at Jubba and Somalia Post-Addis Agreement

The Somalia Federal Government (SFG) led by State Minister for the Presidency Farah Sheik Abdulkadir and the Jubba delegation headed by Ras Kamboni leader Ahmed Madobe recently concluded a deal that on paper was one step intended to resolve the political and security crisis in the region. On some levels, the deal kept the status quo as pro-SFG elements are to administer parts of Gedo, Kenya-supported Ras Kamboni to administer parts of Lower Juba, and al-Shabaab control parts of both areas and essentially of all of Middle Juba.
